Project Life - Honey Edition - Journaling Embellishments

In 2013 I began a new journey in scrapbooking called Project Life. It's a pocket system using 3 x 4 and  4 x 6 cards for journaling and embelishments. After a year I have really become addicted to this system. It's so easy and fun. There are no rules except the sizing, but I have found this to be the best part. Normally pictures come in a 4 x 6 format which is why I say it's the best part. If you're interested in what the system is all about I encourage you to visit the creators website:

There are other names for this style such as daily journaling or  pocket journaling, but Project Life is the name you'll most hear about. There are also other brands which I encourage you to look into. They are just as great. 

One of the things I thought about as I got into 2014 was choosing my color scheme. I decided to build off the remaining cards that I had from the Honey edition by Becky Higgins Project Life. I had probably half the Core kit left. Last year I really didn't know what I was doing so my layouts are mostly pictures, but I love the way my 2013 albumn turned out. Through out the year I pinned lots of Pinterest pins and read lots of blogs so I am making 2014 the year of embellishments. 

I recently took to the internet to find coordinating paper and embellishments to add to my Honey core kit. I was greatly disappointed by the lack of items. There are a few out there, but I want to take a moment to share what I did to compliment the Honey core kit. This was a cheap DIY that I think you will enjoy and could very easily replicate. 

To begin I went through my cards and picked out the ones I had multiples of. Some were patterns that as a whole were too busy for me. 

To do this DIY you will need a few simple tools:

- cutting board

- corner rounder

- scissors

- punch

As you can see I am missing a few of the items I mentioned above. After completing this project I will be looking into purchasing a star, various size circles, and a boarder punch. They will make this project perfect. The scissors I have, just did not put them in the photo. Oops! 

Since this post is about embellishments I want to share what kinds I am personally wanting to use in 2014. So far I have been grabbing for banners or journaling strips to add to my picture. I also love little pictures or stickers. I found I could make coordinating embellishments right for the core kit. 

It took about 30 minutes or so to get it all cut out, but they came out great. The bottom pile is scraps for the cards I cut. I plan on keeping them just in case I need a little strip. 

So those are my embelishments. I don't have any pictures right now to use them on, but Sunday is Easter so I am sure there I will be lots of pictures to journal after that.

Scrapbooking Update

I am so ready to get back to my scrapbooking. I have not been able to work on it since late Summer. Not because I don't have the time, but because I don't have the equipment to photo edit or upload. I haven't figured out how to upload from my phone. It's really frustrating me. I am sure there is a way. So until we can afford new equipment or find a different solution that part of my life is on hold. Sorry if I disappoint anyone. 

In the mean time I will be using my new Cricut machine to make a few gifts. I want the finished product to look like this pin I found on Pinterest. I love how customizable it is.

Project Life Using Studio Calico

Several months ago I stumbled across the company Studio Calico. They do monthly box subscriptions targeting scrapbooking, card making, and project life crafters. Last day of Winter Break

Where did the time go?  I cannot believe today is my last day off from work. I am always saddened by this realization because I always enjoy my time at home with my family, not to mention not having to sent an alarm. 

So what did I choose to do today? Go shopping of course. On Fridays Miss Emily goes to great-grandmas so I had the whole morning to myself. (Trying not to express my excitement, although I do love my Miss Emily time). I got several business related stops completed and then I got to play at Hobby Lobby, my land of inspiration. Before I could play in the store I was on a mission, to find self-adhesive GEMSTONES by The Paper Studio. In love their products so I always go back for more. After finally finding them I was surprised to find out they were 50% off. Yay! The GEMSTONES are to embellish journals I am making for my Devotional Group (D-Group) girls. Inside I wrote the girls a special message with a verse to remind them of God's everlasting and complete love for them. I can't wait to give it to them. 

Next was scrapbooking. I love Instagram, Pinterest, but I think I love scrapbooking just as much and I couldn't scrapbook without the first two. I have struggled and faught my way through the process until I met Project Life. It's a system and method for scrapbooking which I won't go into very much detail here, but it's super easy and fun. I am thinking about purchasing the Blush edition for 2014.

While looking at the display I found other products that are also appealing to me. 

So, I have some quick decisions to make so I can get started with my 2014 album. What might make this decision even easier is the gem I found just sitting next to the Project Life core kits. I almost fell over, well, I dropped my keys and wallet. 

I do not know where I am going to find the money to buy these, but I am going to save every last penny because I NEED to have these punches. One is a curved edge and the other is straight. I cannot begin to tell you have neat and completely fantastic these are. If you get into Project Life you'll get it. :-)

I don't know about the red bulletin board, but I really liked the scalloped edges and the chevron pattern. Maybe I can fit it in some place else. 

Well, it's 4:30pm, Miss Emily should be getting up from her nap soon. What should we do with the rest of the afternoon? I think I'll let her decide.
